Why should you visit Belize?
Belize does something very few destinations can — it gives you Caribbean island time and real mainland adventure in the same trip, without a single connecting flight. Dive one of the world's most recognizable sites in the morning, walk through ancient Mayan ruins the next day, and finish the evening with fish your resort's chef pulled off your own line that afternoon.
What we love most about Belize is its range. It suits a couple who wants to do nothing but read on a beach as well as a family who wants to zip-line through jungle canopy on a Tuesday. The pace is slow, the people are genuinely welcoming, and there's always something worth the short trip beyond the horizon.
Who is Belize best for?
Belize works particularly well for:

Where should you stay in Belize?
Most of Belize's best island life happens on Ambergris Caye, and that's where we'd point you first. It's low-rise, golf-cart-paced, and close enough to the reef that you can dive before lunch.
One of our favorite places to stay there is Las Terrazas. We loved its boutique, rugged-luxury feel — beachfront grounds, a pool that's genuinely relaxing rather than a scene, and hammocks under the palms that became our default plan most afternoons. The one, two, and three-bedroom condominiums work equally well for a couple or a family, and having a full kitchen is convenient, though we found ourselves back at the resort restaurant more often than not. The property arranged our airport transfer, which made arrival simple. We've heard they've since added private butler service and an on-site dive shop, and we're looking forward to seeing both firsthand.
Beyond Ambergris Caye, Belize's mainland lodges (particularly around the Cayo District) are worth knowing about if jungle and ruins matter more to you than beach — but for a first trip, we'd still base yourselves on the island and go inland for the day.

Our honest advice: don't overschedule Belize. Leave a few afternoons with nowhere to be.
What is Belize's signature experience?
For divers, it's the Blue Hole. It's one of the most recognizable dive sites anywhere, and we think every diver should experience it once. Paul dived it years ago and was glad to return so Diana could see it for herself.
Close behind is Shark Ray Alley, whether you dive or snorkel it — swimming alongside nurse sharks and southern stingrays in water that clear is not something you forget.
What makes Belize genuinely different is that you can pair that diving with real Mayan history and jungle on the mainland, in the same week, without it feeling rushed.

Our day at Xunantunich was one of the trip's highlights — Mayan ruins, caves, and zip lining all in one outing off the island. It's a long day, but a full one.
Is Belize family friendly?
Yes, genuinely. Shark Ray Alley and Secret Beach both work well for kids old enough to snorkel, the mainland cave and zip-line day gives teenagers something with actual adrenaline, and a golf cart on Ambergris Caye is its own small adventure for children. Multi-bedroom condos like the ones at Las Terrazas also solve the space problem most family trips run into.
Where should you eat in Belize?
The restaurant at Las Terrazas was consistently good enough that we kept choosing it over cooking, despite having a full kitchen. One evening we fished with Captain Jesus Rosalez and came back with enough snapper and barracuda to feed half the resort — the kitchen prepared it three or four ways, and it was one of the best meals of the trip.
Off-property, we enjoyed dinner at The Purple Pelican. And Secret Beach is worth an afternoon on its own, for casual beach fare and watching the sun go down.
When is the best time to visit Belize?
- Peak season (December–April): the most reliable weather, best for diving, mainland trips, and beach days.
- Shoulder season (May–June): one of our favorite windows — fewer crowds, excellent value, weather still very good.
- Green season (July–November): warmer, wetter, quieter. Fine for diving and fishing; less ideal for mainland days.
Best for: Diving and fishing — year-round. Snorkeling — year-round. Mainland adventures and beach days — December through June. Best value — May and June.
What's the insider's secret to Belize?
Rent a golf cart. Ambergris Caye rewards a slower pace, and a cart gives you the freedom to find restaurants, explore the island properly, and stop at the grocery store for breakfast supplies without arranging a driver. It sounds small. It changes the whole trip.
What's a good 7-night itinerary for Belize?
- Day 1: Arrive on Ambergris Caye, settle in.
- Day 2: Secret Beach, easy afternoon.
- Day 3: Dive or snorkel Shark Ray Alley.

Founder favorite
If we had to pick one thing that surprised us most about Belize, it's how naturally island life and mainland adventure sit next to each other. Very few places let you dive the Blue Hole one day and walk through Mayan ruins and caves the next, without either feeling like a detour.
Member tip
Build in one completely unscheduled day. Hammock, pool, a slow golf cart loop around the island — no agenda. Some of our best memories from this trip came from the days we didn't plan.
Our favorite experiences
Belize let us decide each morning whether we felt like diving, fishing, exploring, or just staying still — and that flexibility is the trip. Watching the resort's chefs turn our own catch into dinner, and sharing it with the staff who'd helped haul it in, is a specific memory we still talk about. So is bringing Diana back to the Blue Hole so she could see it herself. Belize is quietly one of the destinations we're most looking forward to returning to.

Is this a timeshare?
No. There’s no ownership interest, deed, points system, or long-term obligation · it’s a private membership for access to resort stays, and you can cancel anytime.
Is airfare included?
No. Members arrange and pay for their own flights and ground transportation.
Are you open to partnering with hotels, resorts, and other properties?
Yes — we’re always looking for distinguished, place-defining properties that meet our standard. If you represent a resort, boutique hotel, private residence, or unique experience, tell us about your property and we’ll be in touch.
Are resort fees included?
Your resort accommodation is covered. Any mandatory resort fees, meals, and local taxes are disclosed before you confirm a stay.
How long can I stay?
Request 3–7 nights. A full membership year covers up to a five-night stay for two; additional nights may be available based on inventory.
Can I bring more people?
Yes · add adults or children to your membership at signup or later. Your total party is limited by the accommodation’s capacity.
What if my preferred dates aren’t available?
Stays are subject to availability. We’ll suggest alternate dates or destinations to find something that works.
When can I book my stay?
Your dues prepay your stay night by night: a 3-night stay once you’ve paid about two-thirds of the year, four nights a little later, and the full five at a year (or prepay the year up front to book right away). Booking uses your one guaranteed stay for the year; additional stays may be available subject to availability.
